Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini has claimed Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has been sold to Paris Saint-Germain for over 43 million euros.
Zamparini, who oversaw Cavani s 17m-euro transfer from Palermo to Napoli in 2010, told Rome radio station Radio Radio he expects the Uruguayan striker to be confirmed as a PSG player soon.
The 72-year-old owner and chairman of Palermo declared he had sent a text message to Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis to praise his negotiating skills.
I have texted De Laurentiis to congratulate him on doing even better than I did (while dealing with PSG), Zamparini said.
He has outdone the 43 million euros that we got for Javier Pastore when we (Palermo) sold him to PSG.
Cavani has been linked with the richest clubs in Europe in the current transfer window including Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG but a deal has yet to be confirmed with De Laurentiis having claimed he will not settle for less than 100m euros.
Despite De Laurentiis claims, it seems any potential suitors would need to put in a bid of 63m euros to purchase Cavani as this is reportedly the buyout clause in the 26-year-old Uruguayan s contract.
Either way, Zamparini believes Napoli have no choice but to sell Cavani even though the striker is contracted to the Neapolitan club until June 2017.
De Laurentiis had to make this deal, Zamparini said.
He did well to say that he wanted a transfer fee like this.
Cavani is a unique player.
He couldn t stay at Napoli because he has to think about his career and PSG are offering him 8 million euros per year.
